The Spanish low-cost airline Volotea is finally arriving in Algeria after several months of anticipation. The first flight connecting France to Algeria took off this Thursday at 7:48 pm (originally scheduled for 7 pm) from Marseille Airport to Oran. “We are very excited to announce these new connections,” said Carlos Muñoz, founder and CEO of Volotea. “This is a great achievement for us, fueling our growth and expanding our offering in France,” he added.

Baggage Policy

As you can imagine, to offer attractive fares, the airline must apply certain restrictions. If you are traveling with Volotea, you will need to pay additional fees for each of your bags.

Only one personal item and one carry-on bag (maximum dimensions: 55 x 40 x 20 cm) are allowed in the cabin without additional charges. The total weight of your personal item and carry-on bag must not exceed 10 kg, or you may have to pay additional fees.

Regarding checked baggage, you can bring up to 5 bags with a total weight of 50 kg. However, please note that you will need to pay a supplement for each additional bag. For example, a 20 kg suitcase will cost you starting from 9 euros. The price may vary depending on the weight of the baggage, the country of origin, or the season.

Another new feature is that you must check-in your baggage online on the Volotea website or mobile app at least 2 and a half hours before your flight departure. Checking in your baggage at the airport will cost you at least an additional 50 euros. As you can see, the bill can quickly add up if you don’t take precautions in advance.

Extras for added comfort come at a cost

When traveling with Volotea, every service comes with a price. If you want to choose your seat, it is possible for an additional cost starting from 7 euros. The price may vary if you prefer a more spacious and comfortable “Premium” seat or a “Standard” seat located at the front of the plane for passengers in a hurry to disembark.

Other services can increase your bill: traveling with your pet will cost you 39 euros, and changing your flight or destination will be charged an average of 50 euros.

Unlike Air Algérie, Volotea does not include any snacks in the ticket price. If you get hungry during the flight, you will need to choose your snack from the onboard menu, for which, of course, additional fees apply. Volotea also offers travel insurance options. The cost ranges between 5 and 25 euros for travel insurance and between 4 and 12 euros for baggage insurance.

Finally, note that you must check-in online before your flight, not at the airport as with most airlines. You need to complete your check-in on the Volotea website and present your digital boarding pass on your tablet or smartphone or, alternatively, print it. If you check-in at the airport, there will be a fee of 10 euros per person.

An advantageous loyalty programs

To retain travelers, Volotea offers “Megavolotea,” a loyalty program that allows you to save even more. Among the benefits are cheaper tickets for members (an average of 10 euros less per ticket), the possibility of priority boarding, and exclusive discounts for members.

The loyalty program also includes a toll-free number available 7 days a week for access to customer service. To enjoy these benefits for yourself and up to 4 travel companions of your choice, you will need to pay an annual fee of 49.99 euros.

As you can see, Volotea sometimes offers very competitive fares, but additional fees should be expected during your journey.
