Speaking to news.com.au, Alexandra revealed, “After I joined, I started in economy class for one and a half years before I got promoted to business class and the business promotions events team. I have been so lucky. I’ve had the most amazing time.”
She continued, “Our accommodation is provided, and our salary is tax-free. Not only that, but we have numerous other perks taken care of, including transportation, laundry services, and comprehensive medical and dental coverage. We are exceptionally well looked after.”
Tax-free Earnings
She also emphasized the allure of tax-free earnings, saying, “What was very attractive to me was also not paying tax on top of my salary. I live in my own apartment. You can either get company-provided accommodation or opt for an accommodation allowance.”
The starting basic salary at Emirates is 4,430 Emirati Dirhams per month, equivalent to around $1,206.66/£970 tax-free. In addition to the fixed salary, flight attendants receive an hourly flying rate of AED63.75, which amounts to just under £14 per hour. The company’s website indicates an average monthly salary of AED10,170, depending on the number of hours worked, equivalent to over $2,761.64/£2,220. It’s worth noting that salaries in higher classes are even more lucrative.
Recalling her childhood aspirations, Alexandra shared, “Ever since I was a young girl, I wanted to be a flight attendant. I remember seeing Emirates cabin crew on TV with their red hats and striking red lipstick and thinking, ‘Wow, they’re so beautiful. I want to do that.'”
